Global Alerts

On this page

Overview

Global alerts apply the same alert configuration to multiple groups. When the alert condition occurs for a given group, Ops Manager sends notification only to that group.

As with an alert created for a specific group, Ops Manager sends notifications for a global alert at regular intervals until the alert resolves or gets canceled.

To access global alerts you must have the Global Monitoring Admin role or Global Owner role.

Acknowledge or unacknowledge an alert.

To acknowlege an alert, click Acknowledge on the line for the alert, select the time period for the acknowledgement, and click Acknowledge. Ops Manager sends no further notifications for the selected period.

To “undo” an acknowledgment and again receive notifications if the alert condition still applies, click Unacknowledge on the line for the alert and click Confirm.

Configure a Global Alert

1
2

Select the Alerts tab and then the Global Alert Settings page.

3

Click the Add Alert button.

Ops Manager displays the alert configuration options.

4

Select whether the alert applies to all groups or specific groups.

If you select These groups, type the first few letters of each group you want to add and then select it from the drop-down list.

5

Select the condition that triggers the alert.

In the Alert if section, first select the target component. If you select Host, select the type of host as well.

Second, select the condition and, if applicable, the condition threshold. For explanations of alert conditions, see Alert Conditions.

6

If applicable, apply the alert to specific targets.

If the options in the For section are available, you can optionally filter the alert to apply only to a subset of the targets.

7

Select the alert recipients and delivery methods.

In the Send to section, select the notification methods, recipients, and alert frequencies. To add methods or recipients, click Add and select from the following:

Notification Method Description
Group

Sends the alert by email or SMS to the group affected. If you select SMS, Ops Manager sends the text message to the number configured on each user’s Account page.

To send only to specific roles, deselect All Roles and select the desired roles.

User Sends the alert by email or SMS to a specified Ops Manager user. If you select SMS, Ops Manager sends the text message to the number configured on the user’s Account page.
Email Sends the alert to a specified email address.
SMS

Sends the alert to a specified mobile number. Ops Manager removes all punctuation and letters and uses only the digits.

If you are outside of the United States or Canada, include ‘011’ and the country code. For example, for New Zealand enter ‘01164’ before your phone number. As an alternative, use a Google Voice number. Ops Manager uses the U.S.-based Twilio to send SMS messages.

HipChat Sends the alert to a HipChat room message stream. Enter the HipChat room name and API token. To define a default room and API token for a given group, see Group Settings.
PagerDuty Enter only the service key. Define escalation rules and alert assignments in PagerDuty. To define a default service key for a given group, see Group Settings.
Administrators Sends the alert to the email address specified in the mms.adminEmailAddr setting in the conf-mms.properties configuration file.
